Pandemic Vs Students.
Before I start discussing about my topic, I would like to thank my friend AV. They really helped me by suggesting few ideas for my blog. I am truly grateful to have a friend like AV.
The Covid-19 Pandemic began in December of 2019. It has originally begin in Wuhan, China. The onset of the pandemic has led to many changes. Changes in various fields like, changes in the Economy, changes in the socialisation methods and most importantly changes in the education system.
The classes have shifted from offline to an online mode. This has not only greatly affected how students learn but also has affected how teachers teach. The students now have become more depend on the online learning sources, like PDF's, PPT's, etc rather than the traditional learning sources like notebooks, textbooks etc. This transition has become extremely difficult and stressful on students. The problems that students face range from having health problems due to sitting and staring at a screen for long hours to not having the economic ability to use the online learning material. All of these problems indirectly or directly have effects on the student's life.
The other disadvantage that I have observed and experienced, is that of lack of development of various other aspects of personality. The main objective of an educational institution is not only to provide their students with a degree but also to develop the individual in other aspects. Students have missed upon this various opportunities. Yes, the education institutions do put in effort to provide opportunities to their students in the online mode. But the experience and learning that student gets by participating in events offline, will not be same online. For example, lack of socialisation. This is not a problem faced by students alone but by people of various age groups. But personally I feel like this affects the younger children more than any other age group. The first interaction with the world they have is through a screen. Sometimes I really wonder how will these tiny-tots learn to socialise? Will their socialisation abilities be limited in comparison to the generations before? We shall find out with the passage of time.
The last but definitely not the least problem would be lack of acquisition of knowledge. As classes have shifted online, most students cheat. I know I would be really hated by the student community for saying this but it is the truth. The teachers are also very well aware of this problem. The real issue with this is that the students do not feel like this is a problem because they feel that this is a boon for them. But in reality it is more of a problem than a boon. A student might get good grades by cheating but the student will not try to understand the content taught to them, thus becoming very lazy. These not only will add an habit of laziness to the students but the habit of dishonesty too gets attach to them.
For a moment if we look at the flip side of the coin, the pandemic has also benefited the education system in a way. The transition to online classes has come quicker due to the existence of the Pandemic. These transition may have taken years or decades to come along but with the pandemic it has come quicker.
If we look at the statements above it mostly feels like the pandemic has been more of a problem and a disadvantage to the education system. Hopefully the pandemic will soon end and the education system will be resumed back to its normalcy.
