The Main Character.
The word 'Main Character' is trending on the internet. If you do not know what the term 'Main Character' means , then I am going to assume that you are someone who is not part of the internet or you only use it for important purposes. I rather say you are blessed. The word 'Main Character' in movie terminology would be the central character of the story, the one that the reader follows through the story or account. Now you may wonder how has this term suddenly become a popular terminology on the internet.
The term was used by people to promote the idea of being incharge of your life. I am not very sure why this terminology was used. But by what I understood, the term was used to promote being independent and empowered. The message behind this was great but this has lead to a bigger issue among the youth. A new kind of syndrome has been occurring in teenagers due to this, The Main Character Syndrome.
The Main Character Syndrome is when individual believes that their life is a movie and they are the main characters of it. There is no much harm in having such kind of mentality. But the issue arises when individuals romanticise their life. Romanticising your life does not only have an effect on the persons around such individuals but also has a bigger effect on individuals themselves. Individuals may find it hard to deal with the real life situation because they will be obsessed with this idea of their life, which may or may not be true.
The romanticising of life may also begin on social media. The perfect picture of individuals will be portrayed and the whole picture will be missed out on. These will led to comparisons among peers. Today social comparison is one of the leading factors for unhappiness in youth.
Now one may wonder, how we can prevent having this mentality. We can start off, simple. Let's understand what kind of life we are living. Understand the positives as well as the negatives. The negative aspect may be hard to deal. But we can try to eliminate it and make it more positive for ourselves. Negative aspects of our life are important too, because without those aspects, we will not understand the importance of the positives.
